The Federal Government of Nigeria ordered all telecommunications companies operating in Nigeria to bar all outgoing calls on phone numbers not linked with National Identification Number (NIN).

The order by the Federal Government had led to the barring and deactivation of mobile lines not linked to NIN across all networks since April 2022.

Link your NIN to your phone number

There are number of simple non complex methods of linking your NIN to your phone numbers. This includes methods that are specific to the network providers in Nigeria such as MTN, Glo, 9Mobile and Airtel. An alternative method is to link your NIN to your phone number via the NIMC MWS MobileID App.

The NIMC Mobile Web Service Mobile app will allow the user verify and link up to 7 phone numbers with the unique National Identification Number (NIN).

How to link your NIN to your MTN phone number

To link your NIN with your MTN phone number, dial *785# using the MTN line you want to link to your NIN. You will be prompted to enter your NIN and then click on submit.

Alternatively Dial *785#Your NIN# (E.g *785#12345678912#) using the MTN phone number you want to link. The NIN link will then be done automatically.

MTN mobile line users can also link their NIN to their MTN phone numbers online via MTN online NIN portal. They will be required to enter their name, MTN phone number, NIN and email.

How to link your NIN to your Airtel phone number

To link your NIN to your airtel line dial *121*1# using the airtel line. You will be prompted to enter 1 for NIN capture and send. Enter your NIN and send.

Alternatively, you can link your NIN to your Airtel line via the Airtel NIN portal. Then enter the Airtel phone number, NIN and other requirements.

How to link your NIN to your Glo phone number

To link your NIN to your Glo line Send UpdateNIN NIN First name and Last Name to 109, example Send UpdateNIN 12345678901 Joy oko to 109.

Alternatively, the Glo line user can dial *109*NIN# on the glo phone number. Example dial *109*12345678901# on your glo phone number.

You can also link your NIN to your Glo online via the Gloworld NIN portal. You will be required to enter your Name, Phone Number, NIN and email address.

How to link NIN to your 9mobile phone number

To link your NIN to your 9mobile line dial *200*8#

Alternatively, visit the 9mobile NIN portal. Then click on verify and link your NIN now. Enter your mobile number, NIN and other requirements.

How to link your NIN to your Phone number via NIMC MobileID App

You can link your NIN to your phone number via this mobile app irrespective of the network provider.

To link your NIN to your phone number via NIMC mobile app follow the steps below:

Step 1. Download MWS: NIMC MobileID app via Google play store or App store.

Step 2. Open the MWS: NIMC MobileID app, then enter your NIN and phone number. An OTP will be sent to the phone number via text message for verification.

Step 3. After the above step, you will be required to create a 6-digit password to sign in to your NIMC mobile app dashboard.

Step 4. On the NIMC mobile app dashboard, select the LINK MY NUMBERS option to add and link your NIN to your mobile lines. You can add and link up to 7 phone numbers. OTP will be sent to each of the phone numbers for verification.
